F - term inflation in Superstring Theories

چکیده
A supersymmetric inflationary stage dominated by an F-term has the problem that the flatness of the potential is spoiled by supergravity corrections, that is the slow-roll parameter η gets contributions of order unity. We show that in F-term inflationary models based on strings there is natural way of obtaining small values of η. This happens in models of hybrid inflation based on orbifold constructions, in which a modulus T field is responsible for the large value of the potential during inflation, and a second field φ with appropriate modular weight is responsible for the roll-over. We illustrate the mechanism with a model in which the inflaton potential is provided by gaugino condensation, leading to succesful inflation.

Accelerating Cosmologies and Inflation from M/superstring Theories
We review the recent developments in obtaining accelerating cosmologies and/or inflation from higher-dimensional gravitational theories, in particular superstring theories in ten dimensions and M-theory in eleven dimensions. We first discuss why it is difficult to obtain inflationary behavior in the effective low-energy theories of superstring/M-theory, i. e. supergravity theories. We then summ...
متن کاملD-term Inflation in Superstring Theories
An inflationary stage dominated by a D-term avoids the slow-roll problem of inflation in supergravity and may emerge in theories with a non-anomalous or anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry. The most intriguing and commonly invoked possibility is that the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term triggering inflation is the one emerging in superstring theories. We discuss the complications one has to face when trying t...
متن کاملInflation and flat directions in modular invariant superstring effective theories ∗
The potential during inflation must be very flat in, at least, the direction of the inflaton. In renormalizable global supersymmetry, flat directions are ubiquitous, but they are not preserved in a generic supergravity theory. It is known that at least some of them are preserved in no-scale supergravity, and simple generalizations of it. We here study a more realistic generalization, based on s...
متن کاملF - term Hybrid Inflation in Effective Supergravity Theories
We show that the effective low energy supergravity theories which result from a generic string theory can provide a promising framework for models of hybrid inflation in which the potential energy which drives inflation originates from the F-term of the effective supergravity theory. In the class of models considered the inflaton is protected from receiving mass during inflation by a Heisenberg...
متن کاملPre-Big-Bang Inflation Requires Fine Tuning
The pre-big-bang cosmology inspired by superstring theories has been suggested as an alternative to slow-roll inflation. We analyze, in both the Jordan and Einstein frames, the effect of spatial curvature on this scenario and show that too much curvature — of either sign — reduces the duration of the inflationary era to such an extent that the flatness and horizon problems are not solved. Hence...
